A tall tale to tell
... because it's impossible to pinpoint exactly where, or exactly how the whole story began.
Growing up in Sauble Beach influences my work, and who I am. Over the years it's evolved from the Technicolor beach culture of summer through the 70's & 80's; the tricked-out muscle cars, the airbrushing, and most importantly the music. Music continues to be a constant muse, influence, and source of some of the greatest memories I'm fortunate to have. The second most influential force is the beach. It was, and always will be my Nirvana. Sauble possesses a simple, natural, meditative, and powerful balance to the constant hustle and flow of life. The ancient tropical reef works its magic on anyone who ventures to explore it. Nature here is inspiration; sublime beauty, unimaginable power, and subtle complexities. It's a kind of magic that evolves constantly on the canvas, paper, and in life.

This wild path has taken me from working in community radio, to working as a production assistant for a props crew working for YTV, creating edutainment material for Parks/Heritage Canada, teaching courses to Canadian Mental Health, and shaking hands with world famous Mountaineers (and actually trying on clothes for Burt Reynolds to choose from) in Banff at the Mountain Film Festival. The path has been more of switchback than a direct line, but I wouldn't change anything. Along the way I was very fortunate to have met a great painting influence; Paul Duff (Paintings of the Bruce). At a very crucial time, his words of encouragement rekindled my desires to pursue a career and life as an artist. Since then, I haven't looked back. Well, okay, I've certainly had to give my head a shake, but only because since that time I've been teaching classes, developing new programs, becoming increasingly involved in the arts, and loving every minute of it.

Energy possesses language, and everything is made up of energy. Some of it screams, some of it sublimates, and some of it is completely still. Trying to find a universal 'language' of color is next to impossible, because the meanings - both implied and literal - of colors changes from one culture to the next. Most every language we - as peoples of the earth - have developed, possess intricate and individual meanings, however, the one language that remains constant through time, and across cultures, is energy.
There is power and finesse in the art of the Masters. We often hear the rumblings that art is dying, that we're losing our cultures, because there is no longer a definitive movement. Everything comes from something, and it is through the lessons, and processes developed by our predecessors that can only help to propel the work of today & tomorrow.
"The secret is to follow the advice the masters give you in their works while doing something different from them." ~ Edgar Degas

One of the greatest pleasures of working creatively, is having the opportunity to create conceptual ideas into actual shape, sound, color, movement and physicality.
There is an inherent pleasure that comes from working with others through a process that brings life to their idea(s). My own skills specialize in drawing and painting, but I strongly believe in the need to develop these traditional forms through the new mediums. My background in audio & video production, set design and various graphics may offer you a connective bridge to achieve your goals. In short, if you like my work, and you'd like to work together, drop me a line.
